About James Cote

(pronounced ko-tay)

Mr. Cote is an electrical engineer who is proficient at identifying and solving complex electrical
problems and explaining
solutions in terms that a layperson can easily understand. 

He is a well recognized and court qualified expert in the field of marine electric and marine corrosion,
an IAMI Certified Marine Investigator, NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator/ Vehicle Fire Investigator, ABYC Adjunct Instructor
and has advised countless yacht builders, equipment vendors, and other industry professionals; both foreign and domestic. 

James is an ABYC Master Technician [electrical, corrosion, marine systems, diesel systems,
gasoline systems] whose expertise extends into many areas of the marine electrical field
including switchboards, 
50 hertz distribution systems, generator paralleling, load sharing, shore
power systems, 
energy management, load analysis, batteries and charging, motors, corrosion control, 
pre-purchase surveys, fire investigations, lightning protection, engine electrical interfaces,
harmonic distortion, lithium ion batteries, and alarm systems. Mr. Cote can speak extemporaneously
to groups large or small on numerous topics related to marine electrical and marine corrosion control.

He is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers,
International Association of Arson Investigators, International Association of Marine Investigators, National
Association of Corrosion Engineers International, National Association of Fire Investigators, National Fire
Protection Association, Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, and Society of Naval Architects and Marine
He sits on the NFPA 302, NFPA 303, and the ABYC Electrical PTC and Electrical Component PTC committees.

Personal Information

James Cote was born in Michigan and raised in Minnesota. He was destined to work on 
boats, despite his mid-western roots (his first word was "aye")

Jim's passions include snow skiing, the mountains, natural wonders, the great outdoors, fitness, marksmanship,
hockey, and his church. He has a wonderful wife Donna, and two grown sons who are thriving, Kevin and Brian.
